In a proactive move to equip medical professionals with essential life-saving skills, the Medical Professional Education Department (MPED) at Northwest General Hospital & Research Centre (NWGH & RC) organized a 2nd Batch of an American Heart Association (AHA) certified Basic Life Support (BLS) workshop on February 12, 2024 for Post Graduate Trainees (PGTs), Senior Residents (SRs), and Consultants, in collaboration with AHA.
The workshop covered the following key aspects of BLS:
• High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants.
• The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components.
• Important early use of an AED.
• Effective ventilations using a barrier device.
• Importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR.
• Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants.
Thirteen medical professionals from different departments, including Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, General Medicine, and Cardiology, have recently completed a course. Among them are two consultants, one Associate Professor, six Assistant Professors, two Senior Registrars, one Postgraduate Trainee, and one House officer. Their successful completion of the course underscores their dedication to enhancing their proficiency in life-saving procedures. Attendees praised the workshop for its relevant content, the expertise of the instructors, and the hands-on training. Their positive feedback highlights the success of this collaborative endeavour.
